Which book will YOU want to read this summer? We Which book will YOU want to read this summer?

We’re kicking off our summer reading journey in The Literary Moms’ Book Club with five incredible options, and our members get a say! Vote now for the book we’ll read together as part of “The Year of Calling,” focusing on “The Paths We Take.” Each book invites us to reflect on the choices we make and how our journeys, both expected and unexpected, influence who we become. Our goal is to open the door to real connection and thoughtful conversations.

Here are the Summer Book Club options:
📖 Remains of the Day by Kazuo Ishiguro
📖Till We Have Faces by C.S. Lewis
📖All the Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr
📖Tom Lake by Ann Patchett
📖The Tempest by William Shakespeare

Which one would you pick? Drop your vote or thoughts in the comments below! And if you’re not yet part of The Literary Moms’ Book Club, now’s the perfect time to join. Bring a friend (or a whole group!), and let’s connect, read, and grow together this summer.

Reading during the summer doesn’t have to feel l Reading during the summer doesn’t have to feel like a chore. Here are 3 ways to make it special for your readers:

1. Find your rhythm: For our family, reading before naptime has been a natural, easy routine. If your child is a little older, try setting a daily time (like right before quiet time or right after lunch) to build a reading habit together.
2. Let your kids choose: Give your little readers a voice by letting them pick the books or stories you’ll read. When kids are excited about their choices, reading feels like a treat, not a task.
3. Read together: Whether you’re reading aloud, sharing a funny picture book, or diving into chapter books as a family, reading together creates connection and sparks curiosity.

While I was pulling together a few summer reads for my own kids, I went ahead and put together THREE new book lists to help you out too. They’re even sorted by age:

☀️ Babies to Age 4
📚 Kindergarten to 2nd Grade
🚲 Grades 3–5

Each post includes a FREE Summer Reading Kit with a monthly reading calendar, a shared book log, and fun ways to keep reading exciting all summer long!

Our members know the difference a book club can make. As Rebecca puts it:
“Personally, being connected to a consistent group focused on reading gave me confidence in my worth and value for reading.” 💙

This month, we’re reading Their Eyes Were Watching God by Zora Neale Hurston. Join with a friend (or a whole group!) and use our Discussion Framework to guide your conversations.

As a special bonus, you’ll get access to my interview with @raechesny , a Zora Neale Hurston scholar who shares incredible insight into the story.

Reading at the beach has become one of my favorite Reading at the beach has become one of my favorite things to do, but it wasn’t always so easy. 🏖️ When the kids were little, I hardly ever cracked open a book because I was too busy making sure everyone was safe and happy.

Now that they’re getting older (and my daughter is perfectly content to bury herself in the sand—check out the last video in the carousel!), I’m finding these sweet pockets of time where I can read a little while they play. I’ve learned to pick books that are easy to set down when needed: ones with shorter chapters or stories I can slip in and out of without feeling confused.

It’s a gentle rhythm of watching the waves, then reading a few pages.

My recent blog post features 26 Beach Reads for Moms Who Are Well-Read, and in it you’ll find:
🌊 Must-read modern favorites
🌊 Murder mysteries & crime novels
🌊 Quirky & unconventional reads
🌊 Memoirs & essays
🌊 YA books that adults will love
🌊 And classic books!

I’d love to hear: Do you have a favorite beach read or a book that’s easy to pause and come back to? Share it below! I’m always looking for new suggestions! 💙 Or if you want the list of 26 books, just comment “beach reads” and I’ll send you the link!
