My newborn said I could have my mornings ☀️ ba My newborn said I could have my mornings ☀️ back...

Routines are difficult to maintain when you have a newborn. We are just now getting out of the fog and we are beginning to shape a new normal for our mornings.

You know it includes lots of books, but we also LOVE to be outside as much as possible! 😉 Here is what our mornings look like in this current season of life:

📔 I wake up at 6:30 am and spend a little time reading my Bible and writing in my journal.
💻 After about 30 minutes or so, I check in on my business and make a plan for my work time during nap.
🍳 The kids begin to wake up around 7:30 am, so we make breakfast and eat together; all four of us since my husband works from home most days.
💪🏼 I like to workout outside in the mornings with @glowbodypt as my guide. (It was raining on the day I filmed this.) Jude likes to join me or he plays in the yard.
😴 📖 Margot goes down for a morning nap shortly after this, so Jude and I will spend some time reading together.
🧼 After that, we do some cleaning around the house. He loves to help! *My cleaning ritual is Monday - kitchen, Tuesday - bathrooms & add fresh towels, Wednesday - dust the house, Thursday - vacuum.
🌳 Then, we head back outside again until lunch. We might adventure to a nearby park, go for a little hike, or just walk to the library. So far we have spent 64 hours outside! #1000hoursoutside

What are some things you’re trying to incorporate into your morning routine?
Helping busy moms feel confident in the books they Helping busy moms feel confident in the books they choose and the time they spend reading with their kids is my passion.

When I write a blog post, the subject is always in response to a question or a problem that I have heard from you. This week, I am working on a post about the 5 essential things that every reader needs. And last week, I had the joy of sharing my favorite books about kindness.

Let me help you to save time so you can spend it reading with your child, building a lasting and loving relationship.

What burning questions do you have about reading with your kids? Drop them in the comments below. Let's find an answer!
5 Things to Avoid When Raising a Reader 1️⃣Ex 5 Things to Avoid When Raising a Reader

1️⃣Expecting your toddler to sit still the whole time you’re reading. Your goal at this age is for kids to have positive interactions with books. Don’t force them to sit with you the whole time. Let them turn the pages of their own book or build with blocks nearby while you read. Movement can help them to comprehend more!
2️⃣Not reading with your child early enough. Reading with your newborn helps to build a bond with your baby as they familiarize themselves with your voice. It also sets up a reading routine. Black and white books helps to strengthen their eye muscles, too!
3️⃣Not having enough books in your home. Children with at least 500 books in their home complete an average of 3.2 more years of education. (Research in Social Stratification and Mobility)
4️⃣Skipping out on reading for pleasure yourself. Model reading and enjoying a book!
5️⃣Asking your independent reader to always read on their own. Jim Trelease shares that “reading and listening skills begin to converge at about eighth grade.” Continuing to read aloud to kids will help them to develop both their listening and silent reading comprehension.

How I designed my home to tell my family’s story How I designed my home to tell my family’s story in 8 easy steps...

Have you ever felt inexplicably depressed sitting in a government waiting room? Beyond the chore being exhausting, the fluorescent lighting, dingy furniture, and off-colored linoleum floors play a part in that as well. Unexpectedly we feel like the pens attached to the counter-tops by ball chains — will we too be trapped here until we run out of ink? (Just kidding…a little.)

But! Have you ever visited a conservatory in the middle of winter and felt life itself coursing through the walkways? Or floated on the water in a canoe at sunset, even the sound of the water refreshes your soul.

Our environments, outdoors or inside, evoke feelings. What does your home say about you? How does your living room make your kids feel? How does it make you feel?

Even though we’ve moved multiple times over the last decade, and are always conscientious of keeping a budget, I’ve still found small things can make a difference in how relaxed or anxious we feel in our own home.

1. Read! I find inspiration from designers who have more knowledge than myself.
2. Design with feelings
3. Choose colors you love
4. Design the room to fit your needs
5. Make your flooring work for you
6. Hang wall art that inspires
7. Organize toys/clutter (not looking for perfection because apparently Marie Kondo can’t even handle that...)
8. Use light to set the mood

Get the lowdown on each of these steps by visiting the link in my stories today or check out the blog, linked in my profile. (Full credit to my little sister for writing this post and guiding me through all these steps with my own home. They really do work!)

My husband let me borrow his Ralph Waldo Emerson bookmark for this read. He said the transcendentalists needed to stick together.
